OSHW PowerPC Notebook project presentations around Europe

During the last week of October we were presenting our Open Hardware PowerPC Notebook project in the Linux Day Italy and Amiga32 in Germany. After that, we also introduced our Open Hardware project in Alchimie12 in France.

Since 2001, Linux Day is a distributed initiative to learn and promote Linux and free software.

This year the main topic of the Linux Day was “privacy and individual confidentiality”.

The event consists of numerous local events, organized independently by groups of fans in their respective cities, all on the same day. In this context, you can find talks, workshops, technical assistance, gadgets, forums and practical demonstrations.

Our project was shown in Milano by Roberto I. and in Bolzano by Diego M. (see picture below)

Above you can see Roberto explaining the work carried out by some of our members in what we call “Labs”.

Below, Diego talks about the Power Progress Community foundation and its objectives related to Free Software and Open Hardware. In particular the Open Hardware nature of our PowerPC Notebook project fits fine with the Bolzano’s Linux User Group project called “Transparent Hardware” . Conducted together with the Consumer Protection Center Bolzano, by which they invite companies and shops in South Tyrol that sell computers to present the cost of the computers on sale in a transparent manner, separating the cost of hardware from the cost of the accompanying software (operating system, office suite, if any, etc.). Moreover, they even propose installation of a Linux distribution as the main operating system of the computer to be sold. Companies and shops which comply with the project conditions may expose the logo visible on the left side of the picture.

Amiga 32 was an event with numerous exhibitors, lectures by well-known Amiga personalities from the past and present, as well as live acts around the Amiga. ACube was participating in the meeting and answering questions about our incoming notebook.

Another Amiga event was held last week in France, the Alchimie 12 organized by Triple A Association. Alchemy 12 was a demoparty promoting creativity in the context of competitions (2D and 3D graphics, music, 3D animations, programming on all types of machines and short films). At the event, Phillippe F. presented the project and our non profit organization.
